the big fourteen

Today Stephanie and I walked 14 miles, although I think if you calculate our winding trail correctly, it was probably closer to sixteen or seventeen. I am not sure why but I had an incredibly difficult time on this walk. I was exhausted, in pain and walking on future blister "hot spots". I don't think it was quite as hot outside as some of our past walks and although we were going a longer distance I was aching very badly by the time we got back to our cars. Steph was a champ (as per usual) but I was grateful that she indulged in extra stretching with me and continued to talk to me to keep our energy up. It has been a full week since my last walk due to being ill, but I am still really surprised. I guess we all hit our highs and lows. Although my legs ache I still plan on walking tomorrow, though not as early in the morning. I'm hoping tomorrow evening to take a nice stroll to a local starbucks and back to rack up about 6 miles, nothing too extreme, just enough to keep my body moving. I hope that if I pick back up a more agressive training schedule I will not experience so much pain next time.

I hope everyone else's training is going well, is anyone using insoles? any words of advice when you are feeling extreme exhaustion?

I was in SO MUCH PAIN during that walk! Had I been alone, I would have just sat down on the sidewalk and cried. I literally felt like someone beat on my feet with a hammer! That night I went and got some gel arch supports. I think I am ditching the whole insole and just sticking with the arch supports since I have high arches and that's mainly what killed me. Thanks for being a great walking partner! You were really motivating me and forcing me to keep going and walk faster - I don't know how you did it! You rock!

i usually take an advil be for i start. haven't tried the insoles. let me know if they work.

did you eat and drink plenty on the course?
stretch every hour?
change your socks after 10 miles?

there is now way around it, 14 miles is a long way! we still have time to get training in. you guys hang in there. you are doing the right thing, just listen to your body.

glad you guys had a partner to walk with. high mileage is no fun by yourself.

keep walking!
